About us

The Joint Research Laboratory on Applied Artificial Intelligence (JRL-A2I) is a collaborative initiative between Tecnalia, the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM), and the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)
It brings together experts from diverse fields, such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, and social sciences. By leveraging our collective expertise, we tackle complex real-world challenges and develop practical AI solutions that address societal needs.

Mission and vision

JRL-A2I aims to become an international reference group in cutting-edge applied Artificial Intelligence research.
We strive to foster collaboration and interdisciplinary research, bringing together experts from diverse fields such as computer science, engineering, mathematics, and social sciences. By leveraging our collective expertise, we tackle complex real-world challenges and develop practical AI solutions that address societal needs.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between academia and the local industry. Through close partnerships with businesses, startups, and government agencies, we aim to facilitate the seamless translation of AI advancements into tangible applications, driving economic growth and societal progress.

We envision our joint research laboratory as a hub for talent attraction and development. We equip future professionals, researchers, and entrepreneurs with the skills and expertise necessary to navigate the AI-driven world.
Ultimately, we disseminate research results to society and raise awareness about the benefits of applied Artificial Intelligence. We address concerns regarding the risks associated with the emergence of modern Artificial Intelligence for society.
